Welcome to 'Motility March': Supporting Gastrointestinal Health

0%

While not an official UK awareness month, at Nutri Link, we've coined the phrase 'Motility March' to highlight two exciting products that may benefit clients experiencing gastrointestinal (GI) motility issues.

The Importance of Fibre

Fibre plays a crucial role in regulating gut motility, with well-documented effects on both hypo and hyper motility1. It's essential for sweeping wastes and toxins out of the bowel, regulating blood sugar, promoting satiety, absorbing water, and acting as a prebiotic2.

Despite its importance, recent data from February's Fibre Awareness Month revealed that no age group in the UK is currently consuming the recommended amount of dietary fibre, with the vast majority falling well below daily recommendations3.

Factors Affecting Motility

Many factors can impact GI motility, including:

  • Hormone imbalances
  • Dysbiosis
  • Inflammation
  • Sleep and circadian disruptions
  • Bile acid insufficiency
  • Medications
  • Lifestyle factors

However, a common finding among those with motility issues is a lack of fibre in their diet5.

Nutri Link's Motility-Supporting Products

We're excited to present two products from our range that can help address hyper or hypo motility issues:

1. Allergy Research GastroCleanse with Psyllium Husks

GastroCleanse, a supporting supplement for digestion contains:

  • Psyllium husks: A rich source of soluble dietary fibre that supports digestive health and may help regulate glycaemic response5.
  • Activated charcoal: A broad-spectrum binder for toxins that can provide digestive support4.
  • Apple pectin: Forms a gel-like substance that absorbs toxins and eases bowel movements5.
  • Oregon grape root: Traditionally used for digestive support, stimulating digestion while offering antimicrobial properties6.

2. Biotics Research Motility-Zyme™

Motility-Zyme uses targeted approaches to address the root cause of constipation by encouraging gastrointestinal motility through multiple pathways. Key ingredients include:

  • Magnesium citrate: Supports peristalsis throughout the GI tract.
  • 5-HTP: Precursor to serotonin and 5-hydroxyindole (5-HI), which accelerates gastrointestinal motility.
  • Ginger: Contains bioactive compounds that accelerate transit and regulate dysmotility.
  • Artichoke extract: Rich in phenolic compounds and antioxidants that may help with gastrointestinal symptoms and stimulate bile acid secretion.

By focusing on these key products and understanding the vital role of fibre in gut health, we can better support clients with GI motility issues. Remember, a balanced diet rich in fibre, combined with targeted supplementation when necessary, can significantly improve gastrointestinal function and overall well-being.
