Fatty Liver, Fatty Pancreas Webinar

Although the presence of intrapancreatic fat (IPF) was first identified in 1926 and that it has been recognised for decades, the knowledge about the distribution of fat in the pancreas and its clinical implications is in a nascent stage. Pancreatic steatosis is a general term used for fat accumulation in the pancreas. Intralobular pancreatic fat is a significant predictor for the presence of NAFLD, and fat infiltration leads to insulin resistance, type II diabetes mellitus, and pancreatic cancer. However, knowledge about pancreatic fat content and aspects related to the clinical profile remains unclear in the literature.

Fatty pancreas has gained increasing attention in the past two decades with the emergence of the obesity epidemic. Researchers wonder if a fatty pancreas is a silent spectator or the fifth component of Metabolic Syndrome.

It remains true that dietary intervention is the cornerstone for the prevention of adverse metabolic health. The most practical and effective approaches to any medical intervention to resolve a fatty pancreas is the use of weight-loss diets or low energy meal replacements. Antony will also describe what supplements may be of greatest benefit.
