Metabolic Syndrome Webinar
The Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is the descriptive title given to a constellation of changes in metabolic health that approximately two thirds of the British adult population match. This makes it a very common complaint in practice. Professor Gerry Reaven first coined the term ‘Metabolic Syndrome’ as ‘a cluster of risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular disease’ and initially named it ‘Syndrome X’. His main contribution to the understanding of this syndrome was the introduction of the concept of insulin resistance.
As well as providing a short historical perspective, Antony will review the most recent scientific literature that demonstrates how various nutritional and lifestyle factors improve insulin sensitivity and can even reverse MetS. In addition to the most common pathophysiologal events that precede the development of MetS, Antony will explore the role of endocrine disruptive chemicals (EDCs).

- Learn what role body mass has to play in MetS
