Algas liquid supplement is a hydro-ethanol extract of Pacific Cold-Water Red Seaweed (Chondracanthus chamissoi). Pacific cold-water seaweed (C. Chamissoi) is an effective biosorbent for metals, which is attributed to cation exchanges via carboxylic and sulfonic functional groups.
Seaweeds naturally concentrate metals from seawater as the structural polysaccharide carrageenan is a cation salt of sodium, potassium and other metals. C. Chamissoi also provides chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments, along with antioxidant mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs).
In addition, it contains a broad range of vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids, with a naturally balanced and beneficial omega-3 to omega-6 ratio.
Further contributing to its nutritional value are phenolic compounds, including polyphenols, flavonoids, and phenolic acids. Importantly, not all carrageenans are the same, only chemically unaltered, native carrageenans, such as those found in Pacific cold-water red seaweed, may offer meaningful health support.
Detoxification Support
It has been used for decades in Peru as a detoxification aid. Antioxidant Support
Pacific cold-water red seaweed (C. chamissoi) may contribute antioxidant support. Several components of red seaweed may contribute to its antioxidant effects such as –
- Phenolic compounds such as polyphenols, flavonoids known for their ability to scavenge free radicals, reduce oxidative damage and support healthy inflammatory balance.
- Mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) are potent antioxidants in marine plants help neutralise free radicals and protect cells from oxidative stress caused by UV light and environmental factors.
- Carotenoids that help quench reactive oxygen species and support cellular protection.
- Chlorophyll has antioxidant and detox-supportive properties, helping to bind certain pro-oxidant compounds.
