Beyond Acid Suppression: Functional Nutrition Strategies for Functional Dyspepsia
A recent epidemiological study from the Rome Foundation Global Epidemiology Survey found that in the UK the prevalence of FD (defined by Rome IV criteria) is around 6.8% of the adult population. Many patients with persistent epigastric pain, fullness, and bloating remain symptomatic despite PPI therapy or H. pylori eradication. This nutrition practitioner webinar looks at the functional drivers of Functional Dyspepsia and discusses evidence-based protocols using targeted dietary, microbial, and nutraceutical interventions to restore gastric function and long-term digestive balance.
Learning outcomes – by the end of the webinar practitioner will be able to
- Understand the difference between Postprandial Distress Syndrome (PDS) and Epigastric Pain Syndrome (EPS) and their shared pathophysiological mechanisms.
- Identify key physiological contributors, including Th2-driven immune activation, gastric and duodenal dysbiosis, delayed gastric emptying, and hypochlorhydria.
- Apply functional nutrition protocols and testing to personalise care.
- Integrate evidence-based anti-inflammatory and mucosal-supportive agents within client support programmes.
